Bio plastic lids

Bio-based plastics means “from nature to plastic”. Plastic is derived from petroleum or natural gas, while traditional bio-based plastics are derived to varying degrees from renewable biomass sources such as corn starch, sugar cane, sugar beet, sugar beet, cellulose or vegetable oils.

Biodegradability refers to the possible breakdown of a plastic through the action of microorganisms (such as bacteria, fungi, algae) into carbon dioxide (and/or methane), water, mineral salts and biomass.
In a composting environment, the biodegradable bioplastic breaks down into CO2 and water - caused by bacteria or other biological agents.
European standards consider a material to be biodegradable if it breaks down by at least 90 percent within six months.
